The deeper meaning, symbology, and keys to unlocking the so called song "Cocaine" by JJ Cale/Eric Clapton.
I must stress that I haven't tried the so called drug cocain.
JJ wrote this song as a direct symbolic representation
of the experience you would go through on the so called
drug cocain. When someone first
hears the so called
song you could as an abuser of so called
drugs be forgiven for deluding yourself into thinking this so called
song is glamorising
cocain, the first line
reinforces this assumption enough when followed by the second for the listener
to assume the following so called
lyrics are glamorising too, and a so called
addict could dangerously switch off and
enjoy the so called
song based on this.
But the second line when listened to more closely opens up
the possibility the so called song isn’t so positive about the so called drug “If you wanna get
down” Yes you delude yourself. “down on the ground” not really, but I’ll ignore that. So on
these terms the experience of the song is analogous to the experience of taking
the filth.
The so called song for me is one designed to convince you that at
first, it is indeed glamorising the poison filth cocain enough to be released by a poison filthers in dust ry, but this is clearly not the case, and obviously if you poison your body with cocain and are deluded into thinking you enjoy it then one is likely to delude a positive spin
on this so called song, and enjoy the so called song as such. But after a few days of using the so called drug cocain one is going to be in no doubt that habitual use is not positive, one
may even revisit this so called song with negative feelings about cocain, and then look
at the so called song in a different way, and reassess it as being not so positive. And then
realisation of the ambiguousness of the so called lyrics causes this person to dig
deeper, look for deeper meaning here and realise that this so called song is in fact an
anti-cocain demand. I know that this is
why Clapton chose to cover the so called song; because it can evolve in the mind of the listener/so called drug taker much as the evolution of your attitude towards a so called drug so called addiction that is turning from crap at first, to inevitably a total nightmare.
It evolves from verse to verse. From first listen to second. And possibly from day to day throughout so called addiction if the listener doesn't hear its truth until they experience that truth for themselves (a bit like peoples inability to empathise until they have experienced pain for themselves because they don't enough to teach their kids to be nice).
The so called song is weighted in such a way as to allow JJ to get the so called song released in a so called in dust ry that is too filthily scared to let people release anti drug songs on every album they release as Taylor swift wants to do but keeps getting told no!
Here follows my personal interpretation of the so called lyrics; which kind of provides the keys to unlocking the deeper -negative- meaning of the so called song. "Cocain" is definitely an anti-cocain demanned..
If you wanna hang out youve got to take her out: cocain.
If you want to go out, you’ve got to cut it out (stop taking)
If you want to kill yourself, you’ve
got to take plenty
If you wanna get down, down on the ground: cocain.
If you want depression, to be on your knees
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie: cocain.
It’ll expose all your filthy propensities ...
If you got bad news, you wanna kick them blues: cocain.
If you have problems, and you want to ignore them,
sweep under carpet (make worse)
When your day is done and you wanna run (on): cocain.
When you have a really serious big problem And you want
to run away from it
When you have a really serious big
problem and you want to perpetuate it
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie: cocain.
It’ll inforce all your filthy propensities (listen to your girl telling you to stop : leave the co of cain ,, they are brother killers)
If your thing is gone and you wanna ride on; cocain.
If your mojo is gone, and you want this situation to
continue
Don't forget this fact, you can't get it back; cocain.
Understand, you won’t get your mojo back
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie; cocain.
It’ll show your darker side
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie; cocain.
